Hi im looking at moving from o2 to Giffgaff.. few things i wanted to know
What is coverage like? ive heard it goes down quiet alot?
Also im looking at the £10 goody bag. i want to know is Unlimted texts actualy unlimted texts. or is there a fair usage cap..if so what is that cap?

First of all, the coverage on giffgaff is very good indeed. 99% of the UK population is covered so you almost certainly have excellent signal where you live. In fact it, it’s exactly the same as O2. So if you were on O2 before, your coverage will be exactly the same. There is absolutely no difference whatsoever between the coverage on giffgaff and that on O2. Also, giffgaff is very reliable. Apart from one short outage the service has been rock solid and overall is much better than all the other main mobile networks. If there ever are problems, they always deal with it very quickly.

As for the £10 goody bag, the unlimited text are truly unlimited. There is no fair usage cap whatsoever. So you can send as many texts as you want in a month with a that 30, we hundred, 3000, or even 30,000. As long as you’re not doing anything illegal like sending spam texts and send as many texts as you want.

Our tip is to always get your top up from O2 if you have a choice which network to get it from. This is because you can actually use O2 e-vouchers on giffgaff. They work just the same as giffgaff vouchers so your credit will be wasted and you can use it to top up your giffgaff number.

Of course, the smart ones amongst you will also realise that this means you can buy O2 vouchers in the shop quite often store staff don’t know about giffgaff and can’t find the giffgaff option in the top up machine. So, if you ever have any problems just by an O2 to top up instead and the voucher will still work fine.

Similarly, if you’re buying a new handsets and you have the option of buying from the O2 store, just get it there and then you can use the top up you have to buy on your giffgaff phone just like we’ve mentioned earlier.

No, you just need to buy a normal £10 voucher. With giffgaff, what you see is what you get. If you buy a voucher that costs £10 you get £10 worth of credit. The VAT is ready included in the purchase price is nothing too confusing about it. Simple as that.

You can buy vouchers for £10 and more at pretty much any newsagent or corner shop.

My first and biggest Fear was – What if i cannot topup my giffgaff phone and Im stuck with no credit runnign around the streets of london looking for a giffgaff topup provider????

If you are in the same position do not worry:

1) Many providers just have not looked down their list – Ask them to search for Giff Gaff

- Note if they do not – please suggest they update their machine as they are out of date (a good prompt to promote giffgaff)

2) Buy an o2 topup credit – its that easy – seemless.

You just key in the same voucher number as you would do a giffgaff voucher and for me the topup has been just as fast as a giffgaff voucher.

3) Online you can topup via card – I have not tried this as dont have internet at home – but still another easy way to top up.

4) also when you buy your first or second topup you can buy like £30 worth of credit – then month by month use part of this for your hockey cokey or £5 goodybag which will then last you 6 months.

rust me its very easy and you never get stuck as you can always use an O2 topup voucher – if they say cannot find giffgaff or its not going through then simply say ok I will have O2 voucher instead.

Just call 43430 to top up from your giffgaff phone then it will ask you to topup and add the o2 or giffgaff voucher number – its that easy.

Great tips! You’re right that it’s really easy to top up no matter where you are or what payment you have available. giffgaff is probably the eases mobile network to top up on.

Some other good ideas to ensure that you never run out of credit are setting up auto top up on your phone. It’s really easy, just login to your My giffgaff account and follow the instructions. If your pay-as-you-go balance ever drops below £3 it will automatically top up for you buy a set amount and for set number of times. It saved my ass a few times!

Another great tip is to buy top vouchers in advance even though you might not need them at the present moment. If you just put them in your wallet or in a desk drawer at home, you have an emergency top of ready whenever you might need it. If your car breaks down or if there’s a power cuts or is you get stuck at the pub and your low on credit you can always top up using your e-top up you bought in advance. The vouchers last for 12 months from the date you buy it. And of course, you they even need to keep the actual paper voucher you can just save a note of the number on your phone or no computer or on a scrap of paper.

No matter what, nomophobia is completely unjustified on giffgaff!

Hi, another quick question, it looks like I am not going to transfer my existing orange number too GG seems like too much technical jargon PAC numbers etc, how do I know or when do I find out my new GG number, can it be done without installing the SIM card, therefore allowing me to tell everyone in advance as to what my new number will be whilst still on my old service

giffgaff phone numbers are automatically generated when you activate your SIM card. This means that very shortly after you have made your first up and activated your SIM, you know what your new number is. If you just simply log into your My giffgaff account it will appear under your name. So you can simply read from their and give it to your friends and family.

So yes, even though you’re still be using your old service on Orange, you’ll still already know what your new phone number is going to be. A good idea to use of the last of your Orange credit is to text your new number to your whole address book. So yes it’s really easy to inform your contacts before your current contract ends with Orange.

Ask yourself a simple question: “Which network to I want to be on?” You’re moving from O2 to giffgaff so it makes sense that you need to be using the giffgaff SIM card. Otherwise, what have been the point in sending a SIM card at all if you are never going to use it?

Of course, the giffgaff SIM card won’t have your current phone number on until after the number transfer . This means that you have to carry on using your O2 SIM card until the day of your port in. You will be to use your current phone number to receive and send calls up until the day of the transfer. Was the transfers completed, throw away the O2 SIM card for once and for all and only use the giffgaff one from then onwards .

My wife want to join GiffGaff as most of the family use the network.

She does not use her phone a lot and would like to know if she has to buy a Goodybag every month. What would happen to the unused freebies the following month, will she have to pay for texts and her calls?

All of giffgaff‘s goody bags last for exactly one month. that means that after exactly one month, goody bag will expire. It will no longer exist. This means that any minutes all text that were included in the goody bag as well as unlimited data allowances will no longer be applicable. So yes, when the goody bag runs out or that cause text and data allowances also lost.

This means that you will then be using your pay as you go credit to pay for things such as calls, texts and Internet usage. That is, unless of course you have queued up another goody bag ready to start when your old one runs out. So way to roll over unused allowance for the goody bag will have expired at the end of the month.

You might find that if she is a light user you’ll save money by not buying goody bags at all. Instead of having a goody bag, you can just pay standard pay-as-you-go rates and this credit will never expire. Standard rates can be found here, but the main points to note are that calls cost 10p a minute and texts cost only 6p each.

No, no matter which network you’re coming from, the whole porting process usually takes about the same amount of time. Unfortunately, there’s no way to make the process any faster even if you’re coming from O2 which giffgaff already runs on. Luckily, everything usually goes pretty quickly stop you can schedule port for the next working day and support begins your loose service for short amount of time in the late morning or early afternoon and it should be fully completed by about three or four o’clock. Sometimes it finishes even earlier but you should be prepared to wait until now about 9 PM on the day your port is scheduled to go ahead. Don’t worry though, you’ll be up and running on giffgaff in no time!

Hello, I’m totally new here, so please be patient.

My iPhone can now be unlocked from its current provider, and I’ve applied for my GiffGaff MicroSim.

When I’ve transferred to GiffGaff, do I still have access to iTunes and its App Store? I have to admit that I’m not a great fan of iTunes, but I find it provides me with the essential stuff I need (apps, podcasts etc.).

If I still have the same access, can I just continue with iTunes the normal way?

Of course you’re still have access to the App Store. And yes, you also have iTunes still. In short, you will be to continue using your phone in completely the normal way the matter which network you on. Think about it for second anyway, how on earth could changing mobile network effects software on your phone it’s simply not possible. Your phone’s operating system and the apps you have on your phone are completely independent of the mobile network you are using.

In fact, moving to giffgaff won’t cause you to lose anything on your phone. We’ll still be to use your phone in the same way you did before. Moving to giffgaff will only affect things that are reliant on your mobile network. So don’t worry, you’ll still be of use iTunes and the App Store

It was really easy to order as you just have to simply enter your details into an order form or e-mail giffgaff to request it. However, in order to qualify you did have to have a history of recruitment and show that you have a good activation rate for the SIMs you’re going to hand out.

initially, as well as the 50 SIM cards, the boxes contained a giffgaff T-shirt, booklets which helps you promote giffgaff. It also came with some flyers to hand out as you can about the SIM.

Unfortunately, giffgaff have had problems with their warehouse recently and I’ve had to discontinue the box for the time being. This means it is not possible to order giffgaff in a box at all any more will stop however, if you do need to get large amounts of SIMs to help spread the word, you can go to your spread giffgaff page where you can order SIMs to hand out in bundles of three at a time.
