How to giffgaff a Windows Phone

Simply follow these instruction to get your Windows Phone 7 or Windows Phone 7.5 mobile set up for use on giffgaff:

Order SIM

First things first – order a free SIM (or if you have a phone that needs one, a free micro SIM). Both will come with £5 free credit when you activate them.

Unlock phone

Ensure that your handset is unlocked or on O2. For more information about unlocking your iPhone, check out the Unlockapedia.

Input settings

Navigate to Settings > Mobile network and ensure that Data connection is set to “On” and that Network selection is set to “Automatic”. Then select Add APN and input the following settings:

APN: giffgaff.com
Username: giffgaff
Password: password
Proxy server/URL: 193.113.200.195
Proxy port: 8080

Once you’ve done all this you just need to turn your phone off and on again to activate the settings :)

What if you have an HTC phone?

There’s an easier way to set up mobile internet and MMS if you have Windows Mobile phone that is made by HTC. Just install the Connection Setup app from HTC Apps in the Windows Marketplace. Then, when you run the app, press Carrier and select giffgaff. Press the tick to save and once you’ve restarted your phone you’re done.

Why doesn’t my voicemail work?

If your voicemail has not been set up correctly, go to the Home Screen then navigate to Phone > History then click in the bottom right corner then Call settings. Under Voicemail number type in 443 then press Save.

Why doesn’t my MMS work?

First, ensure that you have available balance and that the internet and your SIM is working. MMS messages are not included in goodybags. Then, if you have an HTC phone, try running the Connection Setup app in the step above. If you still can’t get it to work or you have a non-HTC phone you might be out of luck until the manufacturer releases an MMS app.

However, If you’re running Windows Phone 7 you can either use the ChevronWP7 tool to jailbreak your phone or enable sideloding on the Windows Phone development site then run this MMS settings app.

If you’re still having problems and you’re running Windows Phone 7.5 then try the following steps: First, turn off Wifi then restart the phone. Test that Internet/MMS works over the mobile network. Now open the Windows Marketplace – it should fail. Next you have to turn Wifi back on and connect to your Wifi Network. Now you should be able to use Windows Marketplace over your Wifi connection but still send MMS with the mobile network.

Phew, finished!
