How to keep your phone number
It’s free and easy to port your mobile number to giffgaff. Just follow the simple steps we outline below:
Get your PAC code
As long as you’ve paid off any outstanding contract fees, you can get your PAC absolutely free. Just contact your current mobile network and request your PAC or Port Authorisation Code. According to Ofcom regulations, they must either give it to you immediately over the phone or within 2 hours by text. Once you’ve requested your PAC it’s valid for 30 days.
Book a number port with giffgaff
As long as you have your PAC and an active giffgaff SIM you’re ready to transfer your number over. Make sure you’re logging in then go to the giffgaff port in page and fill in the form. You can choose the day you want your port to go ahead. As long as it’s before 4pm when you request the number transfer, you can have it happen as soon as the next working day. You’ll get a message from giffgaff confirming the date of your number port.
The port begins
To start with, keep your old SIM in your phone. On the morning of the number port, you’ll experience a loss of service (the exact time depends on your old network). When this happens, you will see an error message similar to “SIM card registration failed”. As soon as this happens, things have started and you can put your giffgaff SIM in.
Almost done!
With your giffgaff SIM in place, you can start turning your phone off and on in the afternoon. This will trigger a network search which will repeatedly fail until the number transfer is completely finished. It can take a little while but once it’s all sorted you’ll get an email from giffgaff confirming everything’s switched over and you’ll see “giffgaff” as your phone’s network provider.
Yay! You can now start saving with giffgaff ![]()
